Mid-Atlantic Wakeboard Series: Lake Anna Competition
Event Description
Aug. 8, 2007 posted by Michael Kucera
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE:
April 4, 2007 • Glass & Powder Boardshop, Inc., today announced the first dates of their Mid-Atlantic Wakeboard Series. The event series, which started in 1999 (now in its 9th year), has grown to be the longest running wakeboarding event series in the history of this growing sport. This year Glass & Powder brings its traveling events to lakes in Virginia and North Carolina, with plans for more professional clinics and demonstrations on the Chickahominy River, Lake Anna, and Lake Chesdon before the season winds to a close in September.
The events are structured more like “Festivals” than competitive “contests” or “tournaments.” More emphasis is put on having fun and experiencing the sport, the products, and the culture than on winning prizes. Glass & Powder accomplishes this by making sure that every participating rider gets a bag full of prizes at the end of the day, regardless of performance in the event. Sponsors from all over the world contribute products so that each rider brings home more value in prizes than they spent to enter the contest. In addition, Glass & Powder Boardshop raffles off the large prizes, which makes the awards ceremony even more interesting. A rider could conceivably come in last place, with the worst ride of their life, and still win a brand new wakeboard. Entry fees for each event are at the same modest $35 price that they were in 1999. The schedule this year also includes a new weekend-long event at Edwards Beach on Lake Gaston. Look for live music, demonstrations, wake surfing, wake skating, cookouts, camping, and more TBA. The dates and locations for this year’s events are:
•June 9th Lake Anna Competition (Picnic Area B)
•June 17th James River Adventure Games (Mayo Island, Downtown Richmond)
•July 9th Ladies Day Out (Rockahock Campground - Chickahominy River)
•July 21st Lake Gaston Competition (Edwards Beach)
•August 4th Lake Anna Competition (Picnic Area B)
•August 5th Ben Greenwood Clinic (Chickahominy River)
•August 25th & 26th Season's End Weekend (Lake Gaston, Edwards Beach)
Sponsors for this years’ Mid-Atlantic Wakeboard Series include a new title sponsor and co-host of the events, Southern Ski Boats, Richmond’s premier wakeboard boat dealer. Additionally, Glass & Powder has secured headline sponsor Liquid Force, as well as 50 other national and international companies. “The addition of Southern Ski Boats only solidifies the event and sponsorship lineup,” said Scott Dickens, President of Glass & Powder Boardshop, “We’re really excited to partner with another local Richmond business, and we look forward to their hands-on approach to the sport and to all that we have planned this season. It’s going to be huge!”
Also new for 2007, the Mid-Atlantic Wakeboard Series will be pulled by a 2007 MB Sports Tomcat wakeboard boat, courtesy of Southern Ski Boats. This revolutionary boat provides one of the best rides in the industry with the additional safety and handling characteristics available only in an MB. Spectators and participants in the event series can look forward to seeing their boats on the shore and water at the contests.
